Or maybe they don’t like to fucking read?
I love reading. But everyone doesn’t. To imply that people, including family members of mine who are PERFECTLY FUCKING FINE, who don’t read are stupid in some way is really fucking condescending. I know I’ve asked my brother why he doesn’t read, and he’s said that it’s hard for him to focus on reading. So that makes him stupid?
Fuck you guys.

There’s a lot of different genres, as I’m sure you’re aware. Surely he should have found SOME genre that he would enjoy. I know that sometimes I have a hard time keeping my attention on a book, even by an author that I love.
Condescending… perhaps, but at the same time reading books gives you a gateway to a lot of knowledge. More than watching documentaries…. something that a lot of people abhor doing and find even more dull than reading will grant you. Therefore there is some amount of truth to the statement. For those of us who DO enjoy reading and have gained a great immense of satisfaction and knowledge through our books that we may adoringly call our friends, it DOES make the person sound and look stupid. But be aware that there’s a great difference between saying that someone LOOKS stupid and saying that they ARE stupid.  As someone who loves to read… I would think that you would be aware of that.

It’s not about there being different fucking genres that he could possibly enjoy. There are other ways for him to gain knowledge other than reading. YOU feel that reading is the best, of course, because you are a reader. That does not mean you get to look down on everyone who isn’t. I should know, I used to be a condescending fuck too, but then I actually thought for a second. My reading habits does not make me a better person.
Also, there are a lot of other things to read. Essays, short stories, poems…books can be quite lengthy to some people, and I understand how that can distract someone.
And I apologize for the look/are stupid confusion. But I still think it’s horrible.

Yes, there are other ways, but essays can also get quite lengthy and people who say that they don’t like to read — and that’s how it’s typically phrased, “I don’t like to read”—typically will not go out and read poetry, essays, or other things like that. They often don’t have the thirst for knowledge that a bookworm may have. (Not to say that there aren’t exceptions to that of course!) But a vast majority of people who say they don’t like to read wont read poetry, short stories or essays.I read them because I love learning about new things. I love a book that can grasp my attention and make me cry for the character and wonder what’s going to happen next. Not everyone does though.
Also, not all books are long, some are novelettes which are rather short. Essentially bigger than a short story, but shorter than a novel. A novel is a bit bigger, then there’s books that represent the size of a Harry Potter book. Stephen King and Anne Rice write mostly novels. Short stories can still be rather long though, and can often be rather boring and less thrilling than a book.

But you all are stereotyping and judging people who say they don’t read books(it does specify books, unless I’m seeing things). It doesn’t matter that “they often don’t have the thirst for knowledge that a bookworm may have”. It matters that you are immediately having a negative opinion of someone you don’t know, without being aware of who that person is. And then try to justify that by saying “well, there has to be some genre that he can like” or “people who don’t read books often don’t have a thirst of knowledge” without acknowledging the fact that yes, you are being extremely judgmental, because some people who don’t read books do still have a thirst for knowledge! That is very insulting, especially considering this applies to people I know. (Also, what about this gaining knowledge thing? You can’t learn by watching and listening and doing?)
And I am very aware that all books aren’t long. But they are generally longer than SHORT STORIES AND ESSAYS AND POEMS.

Introduce me to someone who is intelligent yet doesn’t read books, and I’ll take your word for it.
Essays… if I remember correctly tend to have less flowery words, they tend to be less expressive and thus less capable of holding someone’s attention. News articles are typically written at a 5th grade reading level… so those hardly count as being a good source of information given their high levels of inaccuracy and biased language. Essays often also tend to lack the whole truth that a book will expand more upon. A poem does not hold nearly as much knowledge but instead blurbs of the past and a large pool of emotions. You would need to know the history… the full history and context, something a book would give you greater insight for, to fully understand the poem. At least for a poem that is deep and meaningful. After all, for Maya Angelou’s poems it’s helpful to know the context behind the poems. For Emily Dickenson, there’s a lot of context that is clearly missed by most. So show me a person who enjoys reading poetry but hates reading books… and then I shall shut up.
Granted, it also depends on what sort of books they enjoy reading on how intelligent they may be and whether they UNDERSTAND the book they read or picked up on the hidden meanings. Some Twilight fans are a good example of this.

Can I just point of that this picture is more of a reaction to someone saying “Pshh, I don’t read books, books are for fucking nerds,” not a reaction to someone saying “I don’t read books very often, I much prefer documentaries and short stories.”

Are You My Soulmate?

You think I enjoy love?

You think I enjoy feeling like a tard every fucking morning

You think I feel wanted somedays?

You think I broke the beads for nothing?

I know I’m apart of your life

But just a small factor of it

While you have the whole world on your side

All I have is a bed

I have my thoughts packaged in a shell

Just waiting for it to crack

You could have done just fine if you never met me

You know that’s true

I let you go from your life

And when you try to live one

What’s left for me to do?

I have no life

I have no personal companion who loves me

I have no constant family gatherings where I laugh

I have no friends who stick to me like glue

So go have a hit, go get a little tipsy, go fuck someone else, go and cut your hair

Change to the person you really want to be

Because honestly, I know I’m holding you back

Don’t tell me I’ve changed you into a better person

Because I’ve only made you angrier

As for me, don’t fucking think about me

I just want to lay in bed forever

Listen to a few songs about how the world is a hopeless ball of enigma

Perhaps play a few songs on the guitar that bares no significance to anything

Yet I’ll think about you

About how you’ll change when I’m gone

Pot head, comprised of sexual curiosity and intellect

As for this brain dead low life

I shouldn’t even compare myself to you

You’re a better person than I’ll ever be

Traveling the world with a partner of better characteristics

Instead of this poor shut-in who reigns slothfully in his castle of empty pathos

Tell him or her how much you love them

Kiss them the same way you did to me

Have a real family with them

Let your parents be proud of your new soulmate

Maybe they’ll have the balls to interact

Cuddle with them underneath layers of blankets

And let the passion thrive

Where I’ll be?

It’s a thought that I’ve debated with myself

Perhaps under the ground

Up to the sky

Or just sitting on a chair and waiting for something to happen

Fuck fuck fuck

This is stupid, fuck it, this is fuckin retarded

No one will ever make me smile

Leading me through more and more disappointments

Fuck headaches

Fuck jealousy

Fuck the pressure

Fuck my anger

I’m acting like a whiny faggot

Fuck it, I am a whiny faggot

klreed:

Speak the truth johnny boy.

klreed:

Speak the truth johnny boy.

Occupy this.

If getting sprayed in the eyes

Is the only way to stay alive

Then officer would you be so kind?

Can you make me blind?

Or just let me die
